Since TECHSERVE CC was established in Durban in 1970, they have
had full technical responsibility for a large number of projects
in the Cane Sugar Industry in Africa and in other parts of the
world including the following CANE SUGAR REFINING AND RAW SUGAR
STORAGE projects.
The refinery projects generally included reception and weighing
of raw sugar, affination, melting, melt clarification by various
methods, i.e. melt phosphitation (MP), flue gas melt or kiln gas
carbonatation (MC), sulphitation (S),and activated carbon (AC),
or a combination of some of these processes; filtration; mud
de-sweetening; fine liquor concentration; filtration; refined
sugar boiling; centrifuging; sugar drying, screening, blending,
weighing, bagging and/or packaging and storage.

Managers for the 1973 extension of the Refinery capacity at
SUCOMA Malawi. Melt Phosphitation and Activated Carbon (MP
& AC) process.
- Main
Contractor for the 1976 construction of a 20 t/h Refinery at
Hippo Valley, Zimbabwe. Melt Carbonatation and Sulphitation
(MC&S) process.

Ltd, Main Contractor for the construction of the 10 t/h
MC & S Refinery at Dwangwa Sugar Factory, Malawi.

Advisor for 70 t/h MC&S Refinery to Principal consultant,
Arkel Engineering, USA, for the Kenana Sugar Factory, Sudan.
- Study
for the modernisation of a Melt lime-kiln gas Carbonatation
and Bone Char Autonomous Refinery in Iran.
- Main
Contractor for the mechanical equipment for 50 000 ton
and 20 000 ton Bulk Sugar Stores at Mlaula and Big Bend,
Swaziland.
- Study
for the conversion of a Beet Sugar Factory at Kiryat Gat, Israel,
to an Autonomous Cane MC&S Sugar Refinery.
- Main
Contractor for the mechanical equipment for a 50 000 ton
Bulk Sugar Store at Simunye, Swaziland.
- Main
Contractor for the 1984 rehabilitation of the Maputo Bulk Sugar
Terminal.
- Main
Contractor for the 1990 extension to 15 t/h of the MC&S
Refinery capacity at Ubombo Ranches Sugar Factory, Swaziland.
- Main
Contractor for the design and 1991 supply of the 6 t/h
MC&S Refinery at Britannia Sugar Estate, Mauritius.
- Study
for the conversion of a Beet Sugar Factory at Carsama, Turkey,
to an Autonomous MC&S Cane Sugar Refinery.
- Main
Contractor for the 1992 extension of and conversion to the Melt
Phosphitation and Sulphitation process of the 20 t/h Refinery
at SUCOMA, Malawi.
- Main
Contractor of the 1994/5 rehabilitation of the Maputo Bulk Sugar
Terminal.
- Study
for the conversion of an existing facility in St Petersburg,
Russia, for the bulk storage of 30 000 tons and packing
of refined sugar.
- Study
for the installation of 30 000/50 000 ton capacity facilities
for the bulk storage of refined sugar in Aquaba, Cotonou and
Port Said.
- Main
Contractor for the 35 t/h Refined Sugar Dryer/Cooler and
rehabilitation of the refined sugar handling system at Illovo
Sugar's Pongola Sugar Factory.
Techserve
are currently contracted to Sucrerie Bourbon Tây Ninh Ltd to provide
them with detailed Engineering and Project Management for the
8 000 tons sugar per day Cane Sugar Factory, with Refinery incorporating
Melt Carbonatation and Ion Exchange processes, now under construction
in Vietnam.
The
Senior Technical Personnel of Techserve were personally involved
in the following Sugar Refinery projects prior to joining the
Corporation :
- The
20 t/h Refinery at Reynolds Bros. Sezela Factory, the first
"back-end" MC&S Refinery in Africa.
- The
1000 t/day Affination station at HULSAR comprising raw sugar
mingler and twelve 48" x 24" centrifugals.
- The
1000 t/day raw sugar melt station at HULSAR.
- Extensions
to the MP & AC Refinery at Illovo Sugar Factory.
- The
Lime Kiln and the Carbonatation and Sulphitation Stations at
C G Smith's Pongola Refinery.
- Refined
Sugar Dryers at Sezela, Natal Estates (2), Gledhow, Pongola,
Ubombo Ranches and Malelane.
- The
MP&AC Refinery at SUCOMA, Malawi.
- Raw
Sugar Melters at Natal Estates, Gledhow, Empangeni and Pongola.
- MC
& S Refinery at Maragra Sugar Factory, Mozambique.
- MC
& S Refinery at Mafambisse Sugar Factory, Mozambique.
